Newsletter privacy notice

This notice covers the free newsletter signup on danstolts.com — what the form collects, what happens to it, and how to leave. The site-wide privacy notice covers the contact form.

What is collected

The signup form collects your email address. If the link you used to reach the form carries source tags, the form also records where you came from: the site or channel the link was on (for example YouTube), what kind of link it was, which campaign it belonged to, which video it came from, and which free download you asked for. If the link carries no tags, nothing about where you came from is recorded. The form also carries an invisible timing field and an anti-bot trap field that real readers never see or fill; neither identifies you.

What happens to it

Signup is double opt-in. Submitting the form sends you a single confirmation email with a link that expires after 48 hours. If you never click it, nothing further happens and no subscription exists. When you do confirm, your address is recorded as a subscriber and you receive a welcome note stating exactly what you joined.

We ask you to confirm so someone else cannot sign you up using your email address. After opening the email link, select Confirm subscription. This extra step keeps automatic email-security checks from signing you up.

Where you came from

We record where you came from for one reason: to see which videos and posts bring in readers, so we can make more of what helps. These tags describe the link you clicked, not you, and they are not used to advertise to you or to build a profile of you. They are saved with your subscriber record, as a note on your contact in the customer-relationship system we use to run the list (HubSpot) and in the confirmation record we keep in our own inbox when you confirm. Until you confirm, they also travel inside the link in your confirmation email, which expires after 48 hours.

What is never done

Your address is never sold, shared, or used for anything except sending the newsletter you confirmed. No advertising profile is built and no third-party tracking is attached to the form.

Leaving

Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link, and replying unsubscribe to any issue removes the address immediately.
